As it is the mission of Faith Partners to help poor communities to overcome poverty and seek to improve the livelihood of the poor and the underprivileged by investing in strong and effective small businesses, FaithPartners decides to embark upon art & craft and card-selling businesses to help these marginalised people. This would involve field workers helping out in training, equipping, polishing up their skills and helping them to market their hand-made products so that they can earn a decent living. By actively seeking to help in the training and equipping of the project, Faithpartners hopes in the process, they would also experience life in all its fullness.
The Underprivilege People - Laloba
The Laloba people are an extremely underprivileged people group that inhabits the mountainous areas 2000 metres above sea-level in western Yunnan Province of China. Their average income is less than US$150 a year. While their language is an unwritten one, their great embroidery skill is passed down from generations to generations.
Through this project, Faithpartners hope that by making the embroidery of the Laloba marketable and profitable, these ladies would be able to eke out their living at home and need not leave their homes and children unattended.
Each product is specially hand-made by each Laloba lady and every product would be bearing their name individually. This is to instll in them the dignity of work and self esteem through working out a living vis-a-vis embroidery.
Art & Craft - Embroidery Product
The following products are made by Cha Youkai, the first Laloba lady Faithpartners met. She has a 3 yr old daughter. Her husband makes a living transporting construction workers and goods using a truck which he purchased via borrowing money from relatives and friends. Cha Youkai is happy and hopeful that her embroidery would not only allow her to earn a living so as to provide for the family but also enable her to take care of her child as well.
